In 1994, Boulder City Council passed an ordinance banning the use of wood roofing materials for new roofs. The ordinance also stated all existing wood roofs would have to be replaced prior to Jan. 1, 2014. At the time of the ban, there were about 15,000 structures with wood roofs. 544 wood roofed buildings remain. Staff will inform property owners with wood roofs of the ordinance requirements in a two stage mailing planned for late January and July 2013. Those who fail to comply with the wood roof prohibition by Jan. 1, 2014 will be subject to enforcement actions. Boulder’s Wood Roof Material Ban Is Effective 01-01-2014. Need more information?
