I recently was looking through a mailer from American Family Insurance and thought some of these home facts would be fun to share.
- Approximately 64% of all U.S. households have a pet, or two, or three
- 64% of American households currently own their home. In 1940 home ownership was 44%
- In 1963, the average home sold for $17,200. The average home sale price in 2014 was $175,000.
- 2598 – Average square footage of a new single-family home in the United States. The average house size has increased by more than 1,000 square feet in the last 40 years.
- Disinfected door knobs. Brass doorknobs disinfect themselves. It’s true! The ions in the metal have a toxic effect on spores, fungi, viruses and other germs.
- In the early days of America, a red door indicated a safe place for travelers to stop for the night.
